Irish Independence Day . Time for change

January 21 2013

News American President gets sworn in for another four years. He seems to have found a new slogan the yes we can slogan of his last term has been replaced with we the people. It was a strange event covered worldwide by T.V and radio stations each and every channel flooding the airwaves with American twaddle and loving every bit of it.

So what about Ireland and its media one would have just hoped that while the Americans flooded the airwaves and media with its Speeches that promise a better future for America and Americans  with the new slogan of we the people one has to remember the old slogan yes we can (But they didn’t.)

But what about the Irish media I phoned two of such places this morning I asked them are they going to cover the American President been sworn in. Both said yes I asked both did they know what day it was one stated it was Monday. I asked them both did they know today was Irelands day of independence. The answer was a resounding No. I asked them were they aware that the turning of the sovereign seal took place today at midday in the mansion house both said No. I had phoned them around 9.30 am so I hoped one of them would give it a bit of space and maybe even turn up for the turning. I don’t know if they did But I have not noticed any mention of the event or the day that is in it on any Irish Media.

I think it’s  shame and a disgrace that Our day of independence is forgotten swept under the carpet and that more attention is given to the American oath of office and for that matter the 4th of July  than our own day of January 21 every year.

So I say to you all enough is enough let us make an extra effort to change the ignorance and inform the people of Ireland of this great day and what it stands for. If there are any likeminded people out there please contact me for an exchange of ideas on how we can promote this date for next year. Who knows maybe a parade from the garden of remembrance to the mansion house? Get schools involved. If adults have forgotten then maybe it’s time that we teach our children and let them grow into it.

Wishing you all a  peaceful Irish Independence Day  and a happy 21 of January to all

Billy Maguire is the present Holder of the Sovereign seal of the people of Éire. These interviews are of such importance it is vital not to miss. The turning of the seal is what grants licence from “We the People” to the government to perform as we desire.
